Hymns of Praise & Thanksgiving Psalms.

Psalms 1-41:

“Hymns of Praise & Thanksgiving Psalms”
Hymns of Praise: Noted for their exuberant exaltation threefold of God, these psalms generally follow a structure
that includes a call to worship, reasons for worship, and a renewed call to
praise. For examples, see Ps 8; 29; 33; 65; 100; 103; 104; 111; 113; 117; 134-136; 139; 145-150.
I. Psalm 8—The Lord’s Glory and Man’s Dignity
a. (1a) Call to worship:
i. (1a) The psalmist calls us to consider the majesty of God’s name.
1. LORD—the covenant name which implies intimacy.
2. Lord—a title which can be translated “master.”
b. (1b-8) Reasons for worship:
i. (3) The psalmist reflects upon the power of God in creation.
ii. (4-8) The psalmist reflects upon the position of man in creation.
1. Man is insignificant and yet God exalts and cares for him.
2. Man is crowned with glory and majesty.
3. Man is given dominion over all creation (Gen 1:28).
c. (9) Renewed call to praise:
i. (9) Having meditated upon lofty things, the psalmist praises the Lord.
II. Psalm 33—God the Creator and Preserver
a. (1-3) Call to worship:
i. (1) The psalmist reminds the righteous that it is good to praise the Lord.
ii. (2-3) The psalmist calls for skillful praise from instruments and voices.
b. (4-19) Reasons for worship:
i. (4-5) The psalmist calls upon us to recognize the attributes of God.
1. Upright: The word of the Lord is straight and true.
2. Faithful: The Lord is trustworthy.
3. Righteous and Just: The Lord deals rightly with His people.
4. Loving: The Lord is steadfastly committed to His people.
ii. (6-9) The psalmist reflects upon the power of God’s word in His mighty works of creation (Gen 1—Then God said…and it was so).
iii. (10-12) The Lord rules over history and His plan of redemption.
iv. (13-19) The Lord preserves those who fear Him.
c. (20-22) Renewed call to praise:
i. (20-21) The psalmist calls upon us to trust in the Lord.
ii. (22) The psalmist prays for God’s lovingkindness.
III. Psalm 103—The Mercies of God
a. (1-2) Call to worship:
i. The psalmist, reflecting upon the Lord’s benefits, calls us to bless God.
b. (3-19) Reasons for worship:
i. The psalmist calls us to focus upon the abundant benefits of God.
1. (3) The Lord pardons our iniquities (Ex 34:6-7).
2. (4) The Lord redeems us from death (1 Cor 15:55).
3. (6) The Lord vindicates the oppressed (Ps 9:9).
4. (8) The Lord is compassionate and gracious (Deut 4:31).
5. (10) The Lord deals with us according to His mercy (Ps 86:15).
6. (12) The Lord removes our transgressions (Ps 32:1).
c. (20-22) Renewed call to praise:
i. The psalmist calls for the angelic host, the divine army, and all of God’s creation to ascribe blessing and praise to the Almighty.BIBLE STUDY -2 Chronicles 20:20-22

CONFESSION-Psalm 100
A psalm. For giving grateful praise.
1 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.
2 Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
3 Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his[a]; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.
Give Him Praise he is worthy to be praised !

God the Creator
"Creator God, I praise you because you made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you'. . . . " (Nehemiah 9:6).
